Jack again tricked the Devil to climb up the tree and carved cross signs around the tree so that the Devil could not come down, until devil promised him to not bother for ten more years. After many years, when Stingy Jack finally died, he was not allowed to enter the heaven due to his sinful activities and behaviors. The devil who upset by Jack’s trick and remembered the word not to claim his soul, and hence Jack was not accepted in the hell as well.
So, the Devil sent Jack off into the dark night, where later on Devil gave him an ember with flames from the hell, just to light his way. Jack then put the ember into a carved-out turnip and since then he was roaming on the earth.
